Library
For this project, my father approached me with a request to design a library that would seamlessly complement his office space. The challenge included creating and constructing the bookcase featured in the attached pictures.
I initiated the project with thorough research, exploring options and discussing essential bookcase requirements. Usinng 3D CAD, I carefully designed a piece that harmonizes aesthetics and functionality. Afterward, a detailed assessment confirmed the design's feasibility before moving on to the project's realization. The accompanying 3D CAD drawings showcase the proposed library, crucial for ensuring alignment with envisioned sizes and appearance.
I started off the construction by removing the old shelving system, leaving a clean slate on the wall. Utilizing a router mill, I crafted slots into the side panels, providing support for the shelves. Additionally, I incorporated grooves on the front of each shelf to accommodate LED strips. After ensuring all planks were sanded, milled, and perfectly arranged, I proceeded to assemble the bookcase.
The smaller cabinet beneath the bookcase is a seamless blend of two standard Ikea cabinets, forming a unified unit that maximizes both storage and space efficiency.
After the assembly, I painted all the wood in the chosen color. Attaching a sturdy beam to the wall, on which the bookcase leaned, required a two-person effort. Once lifted, I securely anchored it to the wall. Backplates discreetly concealed electronics and large corner profiles. Completing the aesthetic, a staircase fixture was installed, painted black to seamlessly match the fireplace.
As an additional design feature, a top plate was requested for the cabinets beneath the bookcase. It comes equipped with a built-in extendable book display, offering a convenient preview or showcase of a selected book before settling in for a more leisurely reading experience. This addition enhances the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the entire project.
