Outdoor table

For this project, I aimed to craft a practical addition to my student home, blending interior design with functionality. Inspired by the need for a useful item at home, I conceived the idea of designing a balcony table that caters specifically to the functional needs of a summer student space.

I made a list of the essentials for our balcony moments like music, games, and the perpetual low phone battery issue. A flat table top, integrated boxes, and phone chargers became non-negotiable features. To channel inspiration and refine my vision, I crafted three mood boards, exploring colors and styles. With these in mind, I translated ideas into drawings, making selections until I achieved a form that satisfied my design aspirations.

I then brought the entire table to life using 3D CAD and KeyShot. Once all dimensions were perfectly aligned, I began preparing to transition from digital design to physical construction.

I acquired three multiplex plates for the tabletop and utilized two tropical hardwood poles as the legs and frame of the table. Initially, I assembled the frame and legs by securing them with screws before delving into the electronics. After connecting all the electronic components, I attached the three multiplex plates together, creating openings for the wires. With the electronics in position, I crafted a box for the music components that also served as a soundbox, enhancing the audio experience. Neatly concealing the wires, I securely attached it to the underside of the tabletop. The final touch involved mixing and delicately pouring epoxy over the tabletop to achieve the desired marble/sea-like finish.
